Man shot dead by ‘Rohingya robbers’ in Teknaf, 3 held

Armed Police Battalion 16 today detained three men in connection with the killing of man allegedly by Rohingya robbers in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.
The deceased was identified as Abdus Shukkur (35), who used to work as an informer for law enforcement agencies, reports our Cox's Bazar correspondent quoting locals and law enforcers.
APBn 16 detained three persons in this connection from the Rohingya camp in Hnila union under the upazila in the evening, said Mohammad Hemayetul Islam, superintendent of police and commander of APBn 16 in Cox's Bazar.
The detainees are Md Shafi (30), Dost Mohammad (37), and Jafar Hossain (53). Shafi is an active member of the group of robbers while the two others are their informers, the APBn official said.
Earlier in the day, around 11:00am in Hnila union near Jadimura Nayapara Rohingya camp number 26, seven or eight Rohingya robbers led by one Jakir entered Shukkur's house, dragged him outside and then shot him three times, leaving him dead on the spot, said victim's uncle Abul Hashim.
The attackers then left and went towards the Rohingya camp, he added.
APBn 16 Commander Mohammad Hemayetul Islam confirmed to The Daily Star that Shukkur used to be an informer for law enforcers.
Recently he had assisted in law enforcers' drives against alleged Rohingya criminals, and it is suspected that he was killed in this connection, the APBn official said, adding that they are looking into the matter.
Md Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, said the body of the deceased has been sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Filing of a case in connection with the murder was underway, the OC added.
