'Man kills' wife for dowry

A woman died yesterday after she was beaten allegedly by her husband over dowry at Amkhola village in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali the previous day.

Runu Begum, 25, mother of a baby daughter, succumbed to her injuries at Patuakhali General Hospital.

Her husband Jahirul Islam and two other in-laws Abul Kalam Bapari and Nur Jahan Begum were arrested in this connection.

On Thursday, Jahirul tortured his wife as she refused to bring Tk 1 lakh from her father, said police, adding that they would investigate the matter.
