Man killed by stepbrother over land dispute
A man was killed by his stepbrother over a land dispute in Naogaon while at least 35 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over capture of a water body in Moulvibazar on Friday night.
Our Naogaon correspondent reported that Abu Taher, 62, son of late Khadem Ali of Tilon village in Mohadevpur upazila, was killed by his stepbrother Haidar Ali and his son Sekandar Ali over a disputed land.
Saiful Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mohadevpur Police Station said there had been a long-standing conflict between Taher and Haidar over the ownership of a four decimals of land.
They locked in an altercation over the issue at around 8:00pm. At on stage, Haidar, his son Sekandar and other family members hit Taher with bamboo sticks, leaving him critically injured. They also beat up Taher's son Emran as he came forward to save his father.
Locals took Taher to Mohadevpur Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Naogaon Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Victim's son filed a case with Mohadevpur Police Station, yesterday morning, accusing seven people, including Haidar and his son Sekandar. Haidar and his family members had gone into hiding soon after the incident, police said
In Moulvibazar, At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over capture of a water body at Kawdighi in Rajnagor upazila of the district the same night, reports our correspondent.
The trouble began when a group, led by Fajar Ali of Abdullahpur village, went to capture the water body at around 7:00pm. Hearing the news, the supporters of Haji Rafiq Mia of the village attacked their rivals, leading to a clash between the two sides.
The clashing groups used lethal weapons, leaving at least 25 people from both sides injured.
The injured were admitted to Rajnagor Upazila Health Complex. and Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.
