Man held with 14 gold bars, chains in Ctg airport
Customs officials detained a passenger of Biman Bangladesh Airlines with 14 bars and 77 chains of gold at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong this morning.
The detainee was identified as Mohammad Rashid, 38, resident of Rangunia upazila in the district, reports our Chittagong correspondent.
Rashid landed Chittagong in a flight coming in from Dubai around 6:40am, said Sushanta Paul, assistant director of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate.
Tipped-off customs officials intercepted Rashid in the green channel following his suspicious movements. 14 gold bars and 77 gold chains were found from him.
The estimated price of the gold bars, weighing 1.63 kilogrammes, was around Tk 70 lakh. The gold chains, weighing 240 grams, were worth Tk 7 lakh, said Sushanta Paul.
Rashid confessed that he brought the gold from Dubai for sale in Bangladesh.
