Man dies as son fails to get job despite Tk 4 lakh bribe

A railway employee died of heart attack at his Storepara residence in the town yesterday allegedly after hearing that his son did not get the assured job even after giving Tk 4 lakh as bribe to a leader of Railway Sramik League for the purpose.

The deceased, Idris Ali, 48, was a class four employee in Railway Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineering office in Lalmonirhat.

"My husband gave Tk 4 lakh to a Railway Sramik League leader, also a recently retired official of railway, upon assurance of giving our elder son Saiful Islam a class four job two years ago. He had a heart attack, when the Sramik League leader told him over mobile phone this morning that our son did not get the job," said Idris Ali's wife Ayesha Begum.

"We will lodge compliant against the bribe taker with the police station after burial of the deceased,” she said.

Saiful Islam said, "The Railway Sramik League leader took the bribe, giving full assurance about my job in the railway department. He has taken a huge amount of money from many other people in the name of giving railway job."

Saiful's younger brothers Nazrul Islam, Shipon Islam and Ripon Islam lamented that they lost their father due to the negligence of the bribe taker.

The same Sramik League leader is involved in recruitment business in the railway for long and he has already taken a huge amount of bribe money from at least 200 people in the name of giving them railway job, said another leader of railway Sramik League in Lalmonirhat, on condition of anonymity.

All the things will come to light if proper investigation is done, he said.

DN Majumdar, divisional manager in Lalmonirhat Railway Division under the West Zone, said, "I am unaware about the bribery. I will investigate the matter if any written complaint is lodged with my office."
