Police yesterday arrested one person and seized Indian currency Rs 80 lakh from his possession at Ashkona in the capital.
The detainee is Md Alauddin, 30, of Shibganj in Chapainawabganj district.
On suspicion, police intercepted him at a checkpoint near Airport Railway Station around 1:00pm.
Searching his travel bag, they recovered the currency, said Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Airport Police Station.
Directed by a local smuggler Masud, Alauddin came to Dhaka from Shibganj and received the currency from a woman residing in airport area, said the OC, quoting the arrestee.
In primary interrogation, Alauddin confessed that he carried Indian currency thrice from the same woman to Chapainawabganj earlier, the OC added.
Police suspected the currency might be fake.
On Saturday, customs officials also detained another youth with Rs 50 lakh after his arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Pakistan.
