Male doctors can't examine rape victims: HC
The High Court today directed the authorities to take immediate steps so that male doctors do not conduct medical tests on any rape victim at hospitals across the country.
The HC asked Deen Mohd Noorul Haque, director general of the Directorate General of Health Services, to issue a notice for all hospital authorities directing them to conduct medical tests on the rape victims only by the female doctors.
The HC bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul Hoque and Justice ABM Altaf Hosain passed the order. Noorul Haque was present before the court during the proceedings.
The DG apologised before the court for not complying with its previous order, issued in June 2013, for recruiting female doctors, nurses and staff at government hospitals for checking up rape victims.
The same bench passed the order in last June in a suo moto move and directed the DG Health to inform the progress in this regard in three months, which he did not respond to.
