Make SC, Bar Council clearance mandatory
A writ petition has sought High Court directives on the government to take steps so that law faculty is not opened and law students are not admitted to private universities without permission from the Supreme Court, and Bangladesh Bar Council.
Eunus Ali Akond, a Supreme Court lawyer, submitted the petition to the HC yesterday saying that many private universities had no sufficient land, campus, buildings and teachers but ran certificate business of LLB, LLB (Hons) and LLM courses by creating number of illegal branches or campuses around the country causing hamper to the judiciary.
For instance, he said Darul Ihsan University had several branches across the country and it had four owners and four campuses in Dhaka violating the relevant law.
In his petition, Eunus said having more than one branch or campus was illegal, he told The Daily Star.
He also said students being admitted there procured illegal certificates in exchange for huge money.
The HC may hold hearing on the petition today, Eunus said.
