Magistrate to inquire into Mirpur custodial death
A magistrate has been assigned to conduct judicial enquiry into the custodial death of garment-waste trader Mahbubur Rahman Sujan.
After Metropolitan Magistrate SM Ashikur Rahman was assigned today, the magistrate summoned Sujan’s wife Momtaz Sultana Lucy to appear before the court on August 5 for recording her statement.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha assigned the magistrate following a sessions court order that had asked for judicial enquiry into the custodial death.
Magistrate Rahman has been asked to submit a report as soon as possible.
Later, the magistrate summoned Lucy for recording his statement.
Meanwhile, the Court of Metropolitan Magistrate Mizanur Rahamn granted a four-day remand for Jahidur Rahman Khan, a sub-inspector of Mirpur Police Station, and his source Nasim Shikh each in connection with the murder.
The magistrate came up with the order after DB inspector Nibarun Chandra Barman produced them before the court with a 10-day remand prayer for each.
Lucy on July 20 filed a murder case against 10 people including SI Jahid and Mirpur OC Salahuddin saying his husband was tortured to death on July 13 at the police station.
