Locals besiege Gazaria police station
Locals today besieged Gazaria Police Station in Munshiganj demanding the arrest of killers of a local Chhatra League leader.
Mahbubur Rahman alias Jhoton, law affairs secretary of Gazaria upazila unit of BCL, succumbed to his injures at a hospital in Dhaka on Monday, a day after he was injured during post-upazila election violence.
The election in Gazaria upazila was held on March 23.
Our correspondent reported that over 1,000 people besieged the police station around 10:00am today as police failed to arrest the killers of Mahbubur.
They withdrew their agitation half an hour later when the law enforcers assured them of arrest the killers within seven days, said Hasim Uddin, a sub-inspector of the police station.
Earlier, the agitated people blocked Dhaka-Chittagong highway for half an hour till 9:30am for the same demand.
Jhoton's father, Khokan Pradhan, field a case accusing 13 people with the police station on Wednesday.
Three people including Jhoton were killed in separate violence over the March 23 uapzila polls there.
Chairman of Baluakandi union parishad and also president of AL union parishad unit, Shamsuddin Pradhan, 65, was stabbed to death by alleged supporters of the rebel candidate of the AL on March 23.
Besides, Lucky, the wife of Abdul Mannan, a BNP rebel chairman candidate of the upazila who was hit by bullets during the upazila polls, died in a hospital of the capital Thursday night.
