LIVING WITH THE STARS

In the course of the long string of obstacles that Bangladesh has been going through, distressing its entertainment industry, the arrival of the newcomers in the filmdom is a beacon of hope for us. We wrote about Jaya and Shuvoo, and another new face to enter the industry is Airin. She has already left her mark in 'Valobasha Zindabad' and is currently working on two other films that she has in the pipeline. It is safe to say that we are on the verge of experiencing the long-awaited positive wind of change in the filmdom that the audience has been looking forward to. It will be unfair to judge someone's potential solely based on just one movie, but the good news is 'Valobasha Zindabad' has already been a block-buster hit in the cinemas. Since Airin has emerged from the modeling industry, the glamour world is not something she is unfamiliar with. In fact, I think she can put her sense of fashion and styling in good use in the film industry too, whilst choosing costumes and makeup. I wish this newbie good luck; she emits an aura of innocence and naivety that she could use to her advantage, by mastering the art of acting.
I would like to take this opportunity to mention that it was the second time the four-day long Bengal ITC SRA Classical Music Festival was held in our country. The overwhelming participation of the audience at the festival overcoming the ongoing series of strikes and blockades was truly admiring. It was the biggest gathering of classical musicians in history. Beside the audience, Bengali Foundation and everyone involved in the organizing of the event should be thanked for presenting such a brilliant festival. It's predicted that if the event continues to run for ten more years, it will certainly have a positive impact on our music industry. Any genre of music, be it pop, rock, fusion or Rabindra sangeet, learning the fundamental elements of music from scratch is a must. Training in classical music teaches those elements. Let's not forget that there is no shortcut passage to attain success as a musician or in any other creative fields. Talents and training is what will get one to stardom. I believe such festivals will inspire the youth to take up classical music as an academic subject and eventually we will have our deshi classical musicians performing at each and every music festival around the world.
