Brighton – a happening seaside
Brighton being a happening seaside resort situated at the southern part of England is quite famous for its eye-catching beauty and welcoming weather. On 24th February, my brother and I started for Brighton from London at 10 o'clock. It took us about two hours of a drive by car.
As we reached, we came across the hilly part of the coastal area which has been designed in a way to give the impression of the road snaking along the coastline in perfect harmony. The thoroughfares are planned in such a way that the cars can ply on the different streets leading to different directions, without frequently overlapping and leading to gridlocks.
We started off our visit by stopping at the Brighton marina. The marina is arranged with an array of boats and yachts docked in a rectangular portion of water along the English Channel. This marina's perimeter is a kind of wide protective wall that protects the it. The wall structure almost resembles the Great Wall of China and is built in such a way that visitors can walk on it or even cycle on it within the stipulated speed limit. The sunset from this vista is incomparable; don't forget to take as many pictures as possible in the marina area, if you ever get the chance to visit.
Along the marina, there are lots of famous English and European hotels and restaurants. Giving in to the growing hunger pangs, we decided to stop and get some food. For lunch, we chose a French restaurant called Cafe Rouge which gave a good vibe of French culture. The food was extraordinarily delicious although the ocean air may have helped further in building up our appetites.
Following a five minute walk from the marina area, we approached Marina Square, a market place, which is quite famous for its souvenir collections collected from around the world. We bought some beautiful souvenirs from the opportunity-shop located at the very left corner of the market. We had a great post purchase feeling. I bet, if you buy from this market, you will definitely have the urge to come back again as and when you are in Brighton.
From the market area, taking about a three minute drive along the coast route, we reached Brighton Pier. Brighton pier is a long horizontal structure built almost jutting from the coast, above the ocean water. At the facade of the structure, the name 'Brighton Pier' is displayed with colourful strip lights that give a strong welcome to the visitors. As we entered into the pier, we found jazz music happily wafting around, creating a happy atmosphere inside. The whole entrance area is basically a gambling place.
Walking a bit further into the pier, we saw an extraordinarily beautiful amusement park. The park is intended for people of all ages. This amusement park mostly looks like the amusement theme park located before Jamuna Future Park here in Dhaka. It really felt wonderful being there and watching the calm deep ocean. There are some deck chairs for relaxing on the pier area. Just sit in the deck-chair; put your feet up and see the beautiful blue ocean in the horizon getting blended with the blue sky.
The pier has a very strong and beautifully designed banister built along its edge. Sometimes, all of a sudden, some would seagulls land on the banister we were leaning on and we got to witness how big and beautiful the English seagull could be! Surprisingly, we managed to get close to them and took some pictures; they didn't seem to mind!
We waited till dusk and enjoyed the blue ocean, as an orange seemingly began to drown in the horizon. We noticed several flocks of seabirds flying in a tortuous route above the water. Their ear-catching loud chirps could be heard from afar.
From the pier, as we looked back, we could easily see the Brighton Big Wheel rotating vertically by the coast area. It takes only a few bucks for a ride consisting of three revolutions. This big wheel is a good opportunity to get a bird's eye view of Brighton.
Finally, we got down to the beach and got our feet wet in the chilly ocean water. Here in Bangladesh we get sandy beaches, whereas in Brighton, the coast is covered with small colourful pebbles. I found these pebbles so eye-catching that I promptly put some of them in my pocket. Collecting pebbles as souvenirs is a must. A day out in Brighton is a indeed a day well spent.
