Sonali bag project stuck in limbo
The Daily Star published a story titled “An opportunity yet to be seized” on July 10 regarding jute polymer invented by a Bangladeshi scientist. Dr Mubarak Ahmad Khan invented what looks and feels exactly like polythene bags, but is made out of jute and biodegradable, unlike environmentally harmful plastic bags that we use every day.
It is, however, disheartening to learn that the Sonali Bag project is stuck in a limbo because of a shortage of funds. The authorities should look into the matter and take steps to fund the great initiative which has a real potential to relieve us of plastic pollution.
