Dismal performance by our cricket team
While the entire nation seemed to have been gripped by a dark cloud of misery, the endeavours of our cricket team were the only national agenda that was providing some sort of comfort for us—but even that is no longer the case. The team performed impressively in the World Cup in the beginning, showing our enhanced level of maturity, but it was only short-lived.
In the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh was embarrassingly whitewashed. In the last match, Sri Lanka won by a solid 122 runs. The batsmen kept struggling to maintain consistency and showed an utter lack of confidence as the wickets kept falling one by one. Tamim, as the captain for this series, was under a lot of pressure with his troops which ultimately ended in humiliation. The nation collectively let out a sigh of disappointment after the defeat—which just adds to our daily dose of national misery.
Sometimes, it feels rather ironic that our players have been dubbed as the “Tigers” because the latter’s strength, speed and agility are traits that our players are still struggling to develop, let alone master. It is high time the team showed consistency with their performance.
