Legal notice to Patuakhali WDB demanding re-tender
Two contractors, who could not submit tender documents to Water Development Board (WDB) office in the town due to obstruction alligedly by some ruling party men on January 27, have sent legal notice to the authorities concerned, asking them to call a fresh tender, canceling the previous one.
Jahangir Hossain, chairman of Daspara Union Parishad under Baufal upazila, also president of the same union unit of AL, and Al-Amin Sikder, a Jubo League man of Patuakhali town, jointly sent the legal notice to the secretary of the Water Resource Ministry, director general of WDB, its chief engineer, superintendent engineer, executive engineer and Patuakhali DC on January 30.
WDB recently invited tender for work under seven groups for construction and maintenance of dykes and sluices gates at a cost of Tk 4.5 crore. January 27 was the last date for submission of tender documents.
A gang of 20 to 25 men led by Kalam Mridha, president of Sadar upazila unit of AL, and his cousin Reaz Uddin Mridha, president of Patuakhali District Bus Owners' Association, took position in and around the WDB office premises in Kalikapur area of the town at around 11:00am on the day, accurding to the notice.
When Jahangir Hossain came to the WDB office to submit his tender documents, the gang waylaid him and beat him up as he tried to proceed ignoring their command. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and rescued Jahangir.
The gang also beat up another contractor Jakir Hossain at around 11:15am and snatched tender documents from Al-Amin Sikder around 11:30am
A Rab team along with police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Later on the day, Jahangir sent e-mail to the executive engineer of the WDB and local journalists, demanding re-tendering of the work through E-tender.
Contacted, Md Delwar Hossain, executive engineer of the WDB, said no decision over the issue has been taken yet. Steps will be taken as per instruction of the higher authorities, he added.
