Workshop on mooting held at BUP
The Department of Law, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and the BUP Law and Moot Court Club (BUPLMCC) jointly organised a day long workshop on mooting and memorial writing on January 22, 2019. The workshop was inaugurated by BUP's Registrar Brig. Gen. Md. Mahboob Sarwar. In his speech, he said that BUP is committed to produce young graduates equipped with required practical skills and expertise in their professional lives. Only class room lectures are not enough to produce graduates to face the real problems of present world, specially in the sector of legal system. That's why, he said, we have established a Law and Moot Court Club exclusively for the law students of BUP in order to disseminate both theoretical and practical knowledge which are necessary for practical life. He expected that the students would be benefited by receiving the lessons of mooting from the trainers and guest speakers.
A very intense discussion upon mooting and memorial writing was held by the guest speakers. Barrister Manjur Rabbi, Advocate, High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, spoke on the art of argumentation. He discussed about various important points of mooting and special issues relating to arguments in court practice as well as in mooting.
The participants of the workshop got the opportunity to socialise and interact with some former mooters from Dhaka University. Among others, Mr. Sayeed Sarwar and Ms. Romana Afroze, now Lecturers in Law, AIUB, were invited to share their mooting experience achieved in national and international competitions. The inspired the students by speaking about how it is a matter of great pride to represent Bangladesh in international mooting competitions.
Mr. Riad Mahmood and Ms. Nadia Rahman, Senior Lecturers in Law, East West University, conducted a session on memorial writing. Through an interactive session, they taught the students as to how to do research and write a memorial for mooting competitions.
The workshop was concluded with the closing remarks of Lt. Col. (retd.) Siraj Uddin Ahmed, Chairman, Department of Law, BUP. He said that BUP is a very new public university and the senior most law students are in their final year of bachelors. He believed that very soon the BUP students would be participating in both national and international mooting competitions and would bring the desired glory and success for the institution and the country. A total of 100 law students from BUP attended the workshop.
