DULPR hosts Book Talk featuring Professor Karzon’s book on juvenile delinquency, gang culture
Dhaka University Law and Politics Review (DULPR) hosted a Book Talk on Wednesday (22 March) featuring Dhaka University Law Professor Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon's book written in Bengali "Nondito Shoisob Ebong Bangladeshe Kishor Oporadh O Gang Culture".
Professor Karzon's book was published at the Ekushey Book Fair 2023 and highlights the growing instances of gang culture and the tendencies of delinquency among the juvenile population of the country.
The Book Talk took place at the Faculty of Law of University of Dhaka on Wednesday morning where Prof Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Karzon spoke as the main speaker. He said, "Lack of basic needs of children of the marginal families and unhealthy environment of the cities affects the intellectual, spiritual and mental development of them which drive the teenagers to be affiliated with the gang culture."
Dr. Mohammad Shahjahan, Former Senior District Judge, Former Judge of the United Nations International Court of Justice and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Dr. Md Abdur Razzak, Lecturer, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka, Writer and Researcher; Dr. Mohammad Shahjahan, Director, Research, Bangladesh Police Staff College; Barrister Omar Farooq, Advocate, Bangladesh Supreme Court, and Political Analyst; Harunur Rashid Swapan, Senior Journalist, Bangladesh Bureau Chief of Deutsche Welle Bangla, and Political Analyst; Dr. Tauhidul Haque, Teacher, Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka, Poet and Media Personality; and Khan Muhammad Rumel, Assignment Editor, Time Television, Poet and Writer graced the occasion as discussants.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Touhidul Haque said, "The state plays a dual role in the case of the teenagers and children, firstly it neglects its duty to make them a good citizen and then punishes them when they are spoiled and become criminals,"
Harunur Rashid Shopon stated, "This book will help the journalists for the purpose to interact with the teenage offenders and to deal with them."
The event was attended by members of DULPR, students of the university, faculties, and media personalities.
