Stay on recruitment process of 54,000 teachers extended till May 31
The High Court today extended its order that stayed the process for appointing around 54,000 teachers to private schools, colleges and madrasas across the country till May 31, for violating its earlier directives.
The bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman came up with the order while hearing around 20 contempt of court petitions filed by over 2,000 qualified candidates in 2019.
The HC bench also fixed May 31 for further hearing on the contempt of court petitions after Attorney General AM Amin Uddin prayed for an adjournment for deciding on this issue through discussion.
Lawyers Khurshid Alam Khan, Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah and Mohiuddin Md Hanif appeared for the petitioners.
During a hearing on May 6, the HC stayed the process for appointing around 54,000 teachers and also ordered the Non-Government Teachers' Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) to recommend in seven days to the authorities concerned of the government to appoint the qualified candidates, who filed a contempt of court petitions against the NTRCA.
Petitioners' counsel Mohiuddin Md Hanif earlier, told The Daily Star that another HC bench on December 14, 2017 -- following few hundred writ petitions filed by 17,000 candidates -- had directed the government to prepare a merit list of the candidates who have passed the registration test for appointment as teachers to private schools and colleges.
