Narayanganj Hefajat leader sent to jail for violence during recent hartal
A court in Narayanganj today sent Bashir Ullah, general secretary of Hefajat-e-Islam's Narayanganj district unit, to jail in five cases filed over violence in Narayanganj during the March 28 hartal enforced by the group.
Narayanganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Fahmida Khatun passed the order after a team from Sidhdhirganj Police Station produced him before the court this noon, said Asaduzzaman, inspector of Narayanganj court police.
Bashir was detained from an under-construction building in Sanarpar London Market area of Narayanganj Sadar upazila last night over violence in Narayanganj during the Hefajat enforced hartal, said Jayedul Alam, superintendent of Narayanganj police.
"Bashir Ullah led the countrywide hartal enforced by Hefajat and the incidents of violence and sabotage over confinement of Hefajat leader Mamunul Haque in Sonargaon resort. Evidence of his involvement in these incidents were found through audio and video recordings. As a result, Bashir Ullah was produced before court and was shown arrested in 5 cases filed with Sidhdhirganj Police Station," said the SP.
Police will seek a seven-day remand against Bashir Ullah within a couple of days, our Narayanganj correspondent reports quoting the SP.
