Eastern University hosts Moot Competition
An International Environmental Law Moot Court Competition 2018 was held in Eastern University from 12th to 14th July 2018. The competition was jointly organised by Eastern University and Strategy for Environmental Development Foundation in collaboration with Eastern University Moot Court Society. Twenty Two (22) public and private universities from all over Bangladesh participated in the competition making this event the largest national level moot court competition. University of Chittagong and Jahangirnagar University were the finalists while University of Chittagong emerged as the champion. Mr. Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, Honorable Judge, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Mr. Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, Honorable Judge, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Chief Executive, BELA were the adjudicators for the final round. Tasmiah Juthi from East West University, Morsalin Hider from University of Asia Pacific and the Jahangirnagar University mooting team received the 'Best Researcher', 'Best Mooter' and 'Best Memorial' awards respectively. Mr. Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Mr. Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury were the Chief Guest and Special Guest, respectively, in the closing and prize giving ceremony along with Mohammed Javed Rasin, Founder and President of the SED Foundation, Prof. Dr. Engr. Aminul Hoque, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, who graced the same as guests of honor. Dr. M. Zahurul Haq, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Eastern University was the chair of the program.
