A land surveyor was killed by a group of villagers at Batajore village in Bhaluka upazila of the district yesterday.

The victim was identified as Shahid Uddin, 55. He hailed from the same village.

Locals said there had been a long-standing dispute between Yunus Khan and Ashraf Khan over two decimals of land at the village.

At a meeting of the villagers held on Friday, Yunus and Ashraf agreed to survey the land and both hired Shahid Uddin to do the job, said Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of Bhaluka Police Station.

While Shahid was carrying out the survey at around 4:00pm yesterday, Yunus and Ashraf locked in an altercation and at one stage, Yunus's men hit Shahid with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.

He was rushed to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead.
