KKR retains Shakib for Rs 2.8cr
Ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has been retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs.2.8 crore.
The Bangladeshi star was "sold" on the first day of the two-day player auctions for the Indian Premier League 2014 begins today.
However, three of Shakib’s Bangladesh teammates – Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah and Sohag Gazi – were not picked by any of the franchises at the auction.
Total 514 players will go under the hammer over the two days' auctions for the seventh edition of the IPL.
The list features 219 capped players -- 169 Indians and 50 overseas players -- and 292 uncapped players -- 255 Indians and 37 from other countries.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which already have a formidable batting line-up, broke their bank to include India's 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh for a whopping Rs 14 crore.
The other top buys so far are: Dinesh Karthik (wicketkeeper for Delhi Daredevils - Rs 12.5 crore), Kevin Pietersen (batsman for Delhi Daredevils - Rs 9 crore), Mitchell Johnson (all-rounder for Kings XI Punjab - Rs 6.5 cror), Jacques Kallis (all-rounder for KKR - Rs 5.5 crore), David Warner (batsman for Sunrisers Hyderabad - Rs 5.5 crore), Robin Uthappa (batsman for KKR - Rs 5 crore) and Mitchell Starc (bowlerfor RCB - Rs 5 crore).
