Kishoreganj people tasted freedom a day after victory

Kishoreganj town was freed on December 17, a day after country’s victory in Liberation War in 1971.
Although the Pakistani occupation forces left Kishoreganj district, the then sub-division, on December 12, the town remained under the control of local collaborators until December 16.
Before surrender, the local collaborator tortured a large number of innocent people and torched many houses in the town.
On the night of December 16, freedom fighters led by Dr Masudul Kader and Dilip Sarkar entered the Kishoreganj town.
Freedom fighter led by Kabir Uddin and Prof Abdul Gani, allied forces led by NC Chouhan, freedom fighters named ‘Kobra’ company led by Matiur Rahman, two FFs groups led by Mahiuddin and Kafiluddin Ahmed from Nikli, and FFs led by Captain Hamid from Pakundia entered the town from different sides the following morning.
The collaborators were forced to surrender to the freedom fighters at Islamia playground in the morning. The heroic sons of the soil declared liberation of the town by hoisting flag of the independent Bangladesh.
People from all walks of life came to the streets and rejoiced freedom by chanting slogans ‘Joy Bangla’ with the freedom fighters.
Freedom fighters freed Kuliarchar upazila, the then thana, from Pakistani Occupation forces on October 23, Nikli on October 19, Krimganj on December 14, Bajitpur on October 27 and Pakundia on October 27.j
