Khulna-Mawa transport strike continues
The indefinite strike, enforced by Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners' Association protesting attack on a vehicle by the men of another transport owners' association, continued on Khulna-Mawa Road yesterday.
The strike remained road communications between Dhaka and the southern districts suspended, causing immense suffering to the commuters and passengers.
No long-route bus or minibus plied the road after the strike started in the morning.
But the vehicles plied the alternative roads, including Rajbari-Goalanda Road, said Sona Miah, joint secretary of Khulna Bus-minibus Owners' Association.
On Sunday afternoon, a clash took place between the activists of Khulna Bus-Minibus Owners' Association and Gopalganj Bus-minibus Owners Association over a trivial matter.
Later, Gopalganj Bus-Minibus Owners' Association activists vandalised a Khulna-bound bus from Barisal and beat up a bus worker mercilessly.
After the incident of the attack, Khulna Bus-minibus Owners' Association called the strike.
