Khaleda to meet sons in S Arabia
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and her elder son Tarique Rahman are set to discuss party’s overhauling and anti-government movement during their visit to Saudi Arabia this week, party sources said.
Khaleda left the country for Saudi Arabia tonight to perform Umrah at the invitation of the Saudi government, BNP sources said.
The BNP chief flew from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in an Emirates flight around 9:40pm.
While her two sons Tarique and Arafat Rahman Koko along with their family members will also go to Saudi Arabia this week, party sources said.
The reunion of the Zia family is going to take place after nearly seven years.
Following the 1\11 political changeover in 2007, Khaleda and her two sons were arrested on different corruption charges. After their release in 2008, Tarique along his wife and one daughter went to London while Koko with his family members flew to Thailand for treatment purposes.
Since then Tarique, senior vice-chairman of BNP, has been staying in London while Koko in Malaysia where he flew from Thailand.
Khaleda met Koko in Singapore in 2012 and Tarique in London the same year. But they did not meet all together since 2007.
Therefore, it will be the first reunion of the Zia family if they all finally visit Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
The former premier usually performs Umrah as a royal guest of the Saudi government every year.
Apart from Khaleda’s family members, her personal staffs and some BNP leaders will accompany her during the Umrah.
Khaleda is expected to return home on July 25.
