Khaleda for disbanding Rab
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia today called for disbanding the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) alleging that the elite force members have now become hired assassins.
Khaleda came up with the remarks days after three officers of Rab formed by her government in 2004 dismissed from their services for their alleged involvement with the recent abduction and murder of seven people in Narayanganj.
"People think that there is no necessity of Rab anymore as they are now killing people in exchange for money," Khaleda said while talking to the family member of a BNP leader, who remains disappeared for nearly six months.
Law enforcers picked up Md Sajedul Islam Sumon, general secretary of word No. 32 of city BNP, on December 4 last year, his family alleged.
Khaleda said she formed Rab for the welfare of the general people "but the government is now using the force on political purposes.”
She demanded return of all the leaders and activists of BNP and others alive who were picked up by law enforcers.
“I am calling upon the Rab to return the people picked up by its members immediately. If it fails, the Rab and illegal government will be responsible for this.”
