Keep calm and soldier on

Keep calm and soldier on

If I had a chocolate every time I asked myself about my future after University, I'd probably be rich selling those chocolates now.  The world around us keeps reminding us of this phrase known as “Quarter life crisis”.  It can be particularly tough to get through the difficult phrase.
Here are some thoughts that can help you survive the crisis.

Stop worrying about the bank balance

All these glorified fat bank accounts we hear about takes time to grow, unless it's “daddy's” money. The people with healthy bank accounts had to work hard over time. Mid twenties is not the time to worry about the bank account and how poor it is; it's rather the time to ignore short term benefits and concentrate into the long term possibilities.

Don't be afraid of making mistakes

Mistakes make us who we are. If you want to work in the advertising industry, you should go for it. Living upto everyone's expectation and getting a safe job at some company will only be a burden. Take a leap of faith and follow your dreams. It's not guaranteed that you will be successful. If your decision turns out to be a mistake then let it be. Your life won't end there.

Remember that you are not alone

It's a simple calculation. If you are going thought a rough time, most likely other people of your age are going through the same. It's only normal if your future worries you. Remember that you are only a fish in the sea and there are other people as frustrated as you. It's not a deadly disease. Crisis is normal.

Make peace with fate

The secret is to admit and make peace with fate, even if you don't believe in it. Whatever happened probably happened for good. Having a hard time buying it? Brian Acton, the owner of Whatsapp (the famous chat application that facebook bought for USD 19 Billion) got denied of jobs at Twitter and Facebook. Look what he has created. His application sold for 19 BILLION DOLLARS! You only need the right attitude to look at the temporary failure. It happened only because he never gave up and moved on accepting the failure.

Realize that it's more of a transition than a crisis

You recently said “goodbye” to the comfortable, possibly carefree student life. It's like breaking up with your past and moving forward. It won't necessarily be bad, it would be a journey. You only have to hold on tight and go with it. Do you think Marissa Mayer, the CEO of Yahoo!, knew that she was going to run a tech company such as yahoo! someday? I bet she had no clue! Your life will probably turn around too. Just hold on.
