Karim Hasan Khan, a singer and ardent music lover, launched two of his albums--“Oborohi” and “Aji E Kusum Haar”--through a grand programme held on Friday at the AS Mahmud Seminar Hall of The Daily Star Centre. The first album features adhunik songs while the second contains Nazrul Sangeet, which the singer believes would be a listener's delight.

Mobarak Hossain Khan, music exponent and former director general of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy; veteran Nazrul singer Khalid Hossain; noted music director Sheikh Sadi Khan; guitar player Enamul Kabir; chairman of Laser Vision, AKM Arifur Rahman; noted Nazrul exponent Sadya Afreen Mallick, singers Hasina Momtaz, Moloy Kumar Ganguly, film star Reaz and many others launched the CDs and spoke highly on the artiste. Quazi Rownoq Hossain, journalist and editor of Sargam, presided over the album launching ceremony.

Khan began learning music under his father while still a child. Later, he trained under noted singers, and during his stay in India, he trained in classical music and Nazrul Sangeet under the tutelage of AT Kanon and Pandit Sukumar Mitra.

His father Hasan Ali Khan was a singer and composer. And in the album “Oborohi”, Karim Hasan Khan recreated two of his father's songs: Banshiti Bajabo Jokhon and Amar Kul O Maan Shob Poraiya. In addition to these the album also features eight adhunik songs of both Bangladesh and Indian singers, in Karim's voice.

“I think old is gold and the new generation should listen to timeless masterpieces by veteran artistes. I recorded Saiful Islam's Tumi Sondha Akasher Tarar Moto, Rafiqul Alam's, Tomake Jeno Bhule Na Jai, Manabendra Mukherjee's Ami Eto Je Tomay Bhalobeshechi, Subir Sen's Eto Sur r Eto Gaan and a few tracks of other artistes such as Hemanta Mukherjee,” said the singer about his album.

“I mainly focus on Nazrul Sangeet and classical music since these are similar and Nazrul songs are based on classical. 'Aji E Kusum Haar' features Nazrul Sangeet. Some of those are popular while some are lesser known songs as Nazrul wrote a whopping number of songs and most are unknown to listeners,” he added.

“I think the popularity of Nazrul Sangeet still draws many young singers. Since it's classical -based, Nazrul Sangeet is not very popular among the masses but  is gaining momentum,” the singer concluded.

Khan is hopeful that listeners will appreciate his new albums.
