Jute mill workers block Khulna highway
The employees of nine state-owned jute mills of Khulna-Jessore region yesterday blockaded the Khulna-Jessore highway at three points for about two hours protesting the government's decision to privatise the mills.
Under the banner of “CBA-Non CBA Samannyo Parishad of State Owned Jute Mills”, the agitators blockaded the highway by burning tyres on Khalishpur Natun Rasta Intersection, Phulbarigate and Aleem jute mill areas, creating a long tailback on the highway.
They also blocked the rail tracks for two hours from 10:00am at Natun Rasta Intersection snapping rail communications between Khulna and Jessore.
The agitating workers threatened tougher demonstrations after Eid-ul-Fitr if the move is not stopped.
