Journo leaders call minister Mohsin 'mentally imbalanced'
Terming the Social Welfare Minister Syed Mohsin Ali “mentally imbalanced”, journalist leaders today demanded his immediate arrest for making inappropriate remarks against the journalists.
"We are demanding legal actions against the minister and his arrest within 48 hours," leaders of Bangladesh Federal Journalist Union (BFUJ) and a faction of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) raised the demand at a rally staged in front of the Jatiya Press Club, reports the daily Prothom Alo.
The social welfare minister at a function in Sylhet yesterday said: "Journalists are dirty chaps and of bad characters.”
At one point, the minister also told the photojournalists not to take his photos and also asked the newsmen to leave the venue.
Taking part at the rally, journalist leader, Ruhul Amin Gazi said the present cabinet cannot be treated as normal as the social welfare minister has started using abusive remarks against the journalists.
"The minister will have to be fired from the cabinet and arrested within 48 hours otherwise we will continue our movement," he warned.
President of Dhaka Union of Journalists Abdul Hai Sikdar described the minister as “mentally imbalanced” and asked the concerned authorities to send him to Pabna Mental Hospital for treatment.
Calling upon all to be united to uphold the dignity of the journalists, he said: "We will go to the court for legal action in this regard."
Later, the agitated journalists brought out a procession which ended at the same place after parading different adjoining streets.
