Journalists protest assault on fellow
Journalists of five upazilas of Chapainawabganj district formed a human chain and organised a rally in front of Chapainawabganj Press Club yesterday protesting the assault on Emran Faruk Masum, local correspondent of the daily Jugantar, Bangladesh Television and RTV.
The journalists also declared that they would boycott all programmes of the local lawmaker who assaulted Masum.
On Thursday, Masum, for reporting, went to the office of Sadar upazila primary education office as Debesh Sarkar, assistant director of the Directorate of Primary Education, came to investigate alleged irregularities and corruption of a primary school headmaster.
Abdul Odud, lawmaker from Chapainawabganj-3 (Sadar) constituency, and Masum engaged in a heated exchange in presence of the officials there. At one stage Odud beat Masum. Admitting the incident, Odud said he beat Masum because the journalist misbehaved with him.
