Journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chy killed in road crash
Senior journalist Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury died after he was badly injured while getting down from a passenger bus at Karwan Bazar in Dhaka this evening.
The international affairs analyst was on his way to join a programme at private satellite television channel’s office at Karwan Bazar minutes before 8:00pm when the incident took place, our correspondent reports quoting Shyamol Dutt, editor of vernacular daily Bhorer Kagoj.
Body of Chowdhury, a former chief editor of state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, has been kept at the mortuary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
According to witnesses, the veteran journalist was travelling by a passenger bus to go to the private TV channel’s office. As the bus slowed down near the police box at the Saarc Fountain intersection, he attempted to get down.
“But the bus sped up this time and he (Chowdhury) fell on the road,” a witness told The Daily Star.
With several injuries in his body and bleeding profusely, he was rushed to Mohona Hospital on Green Road. As the doctors referred for further care, those who rescued him took him to Comfort Hospital in the same area.
But while undergoing treatment there, Chowdhury succumbed to his injuries.
