Jharna Dhara admitted to Square Hospital
Eminent Bangladeshi social worker Jharna Dhara Chowdhury was admitted to Square Hospital in the capital for better treatment yesterday.
Earlier, she was taken to a local private clinic in Maijdee as she fell sick due to old-age complications at Gandhi Ashram Trust in Noakhali, Raha Nobo Kumar, director of the trust informed.
Noakhali deputy commissioner, other government officials and local eminent people visited her.
An ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi, Jharna in 1990 took over the responsibility of the trust which works directly with 25,000 poor families, both Muslims and Hindus.
She has been supervising the trust as its secretary.
She received the prestigious Padma Shri civilian award from Indian President Pranab Mukherjee last year for her outstanding role in social services.
At the age of eight, Jharna was motivated by Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi's principles of non-violence, self-reliance and community work and stayed single to focus on her work like many followers.
