JCD chief among five charged
A Dhaka court yesterday framed charges against five Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal men including its chief in a case filed for blasting bombs at the information minister's residence in June last year.
The accused are JCD President Abdul Kader Bhuiyan Jewel; Dhaka city (north) Senior Vice-president Sharifuddin Jewel; central committee member Akil Mahmud; Mirpur thana unit Senior Vice-president Firoz Mahmud; and Titumir College unit activist Mahbubul Alam.
Of them, Sharifuddin Jewel and Firoz are on the run while Kader, Akil and Alam, now on bail, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice from the court which fixed October 23 to start trial.
On June 9 last year, four crude bombs were hurled at the capital's Mirpur residence of Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu.
Although no one was hurt during the explosion, the crude bombs had cracked the walls and windows of the first and second floors of his house.
