JCD backtracks on founding anniversary rally
Despite having permission, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has opted not to go ahead with its tomorrow’s rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka to avoid arrest of its top leaders and possible clash with the ruling party men before January 5.
A big number of leaders and activist of JCD, student wing of the BNP, including its President Rajib Ahsan and General Secretary Akramul Hasan have been accused in cases filed over the Bakshibazar clashes.
The JCD was scheduled to hold a student gathering at Suhrawardy Udyan tomorrow on the occasion of its 36th founding anniversary where BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was supposed to address.
Talking to The Daily Star this afternoon, the JCD general secretary however said they have decided not to organise as they have no enough time to make the programme successful.
Meanwhile, BNP is planning to wage a tough movement centering the January 5 which they want to mark as “Democracy Killing Day’.
Mentionable, the Awami League government was formed following the January 5 election boycotted by the BNP-led alliance and several other political parties.
