Irrational medicine use discouraged

Experts at a science conference yesterday said irrational use of medicine in Bangladesh are making microorganisms resistant to antibiotics, posing a big threat to public health.
They were addressing the Asian University for Women (AUW) National Conference on Natural Science and Technology organised by the university's Science and Mathematics Programme. The conference was held on the campus in Chittagong city.
Two keynote papers and six papers were presented on the first day of the two-day conference.
Dr Md Ahaduzzaman and Dr MN Islam of Chittagong Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in their presentations, suggested controlling the arbitrary use of antibiotics.
Dr Talat Islam, Dr Kaushik Deb, Pranab Biswas and Prof Dr Fahima Aziz, among others, attended the conference.
