Indictment order on 2 ‘war criminals’ Dec 11

A tribunal in Dhaka fixed December 11 to decide on whether it will frame charges against two suspected war criminals of Chapainawabganj for their alleged crimes against humanity committed during the country’s Liberation War in 1971.
The alleged Razakars are Mahidur Rahman, 84, of Dadanchak village; and Afsar Hossain alias Chutu, 65, of Satrosia village; under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.
Prosecutors pressed three charges against Mahidur and Afsar for their alleged involvement in mass killings, arson, looting, abduction, torture, confinement and murder committed in Chapainawabganj in 1971.
After hearing the charges, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 led by its Chairman Justice Obaidul Hassan fixed the date for its order in presence of the duo.
The court also fixed December 11 for passing an order on their bail petitions submitted today.
The tribunal on November 24 took the war crimes charges brought against two alleged Razakars of Chapainawabganj into cognisance.
Mahidur and Afsar were arrested in a criminal case on September 16. Later, they were shown arrested in the war crimes case.
