Interrupted oxygen supply at Indian hospital: Death toll rises to 24
The death toll at a Covid-19 hospital in India following oxygen cylinder leak has climbed to 24 with two more patients dying, said District Collector Suraj Mandhare.
An oxygen tanker leaked while the tankers were being filled at Dr Zakir Hussain Hospital in Nashik district of Maharashtra where initially 22 patients died due to low oxygen supply, the district collector added.
The patients were on ventilators as well as on oxygen supply, which got interrupted after the leakage in the oxygen supply tank, our New Delhi correspondent reports quoting Suraj Mandhare.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope said the patients were being treated at a hospital run by the Nashik Municipal Corporation for Covid-19 patients.
A video of oxygen purportedly leaking from the storage plant went viral on the social media.
Some relatives of the deceased Covid-19 patients have alleged that the "lowered supply of oxygen" claimed the lives of their kin.
Several states of India are facing a shortage of medical oxygen.
