Hours after leaving, Rizvi clears hospital bill

BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, who was allegedly taken to a top hospital in Dhaka against his will, had to bear the expenses himself for treatment and four-day stay there.
Around 10 hours into his ‘sneaking out’ of the hospital, one of his representatives cleared all the dues at the hospital.
Kept in a deluxe cabin at Apollo Hospitals in Dhaka under police watch since Sunday after picked up from Nayapaltan party headquarters by lawmen claiming he was sick, he managed to dodge everyone before leaving the hospital early today.
Rizvi was missing since 4:00am today. But, one of his associates cleared all his dues at the hospital, Mofizul Islam, duty manager at Apollo Hospital, told The Daily Star Online.
“One of his associates cleared the bill around 1:50pm today,” he said.
According to him, Rizvi was being kept in a deluxe single cabin, fed the hospital’s food and taken through some laboratory tests and blood tests during a stay in the hospital.
The bill was within five digits, Mofizul Islam said without being specific.
Rizvi was suffering from gastrological problems and nausea. Dr ASM Raihan of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, who saw the BNP leader, said he needed rest.
After four days, he ‘sneaked out’ today to evade capture following the arrest of his senior party compatriot Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir – the acting secretary general of BNP.
HOSPITAL COMPLAINS TO POLICE OVER RIZVI’S BILL
Alleging that Rizvi had left the hospital without clearing the dues, the authority of Apollo Hospital moved a general diary with Bhatara police this morning.
Shah Alam, security executive of the hospital, filed the case at 10:15am today, Mahmud Chowdhury, a sub-inspector of Bhatara Police Station told The Daily Star Online.
The short GD said that around 3:40am this morning, a nurse went to check up on Rizvi and found him gone. “They filed the complaint against Rizvi’s default hospital bill.”
“This GD will remain registered as a complaint until the plaintiff withdraws it,” the SI said.
Later, from a secrete place Rizvi asked the people to continue the countrywide transport blockade until their 20-party alliance takes a fresh decision in this regard.
The government had tried to kill BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia by spraying pepper at office, he blamed.
The BNP leader came up with the announcement at a press briefing at a residence in Gulshan, hours after he left the Apollo Hospital this morning.
Rizvi, who was picked up by plainclothes police and then admitted to Apollo Hospital on early hours of Sunday, left the hospital this morning without informing the hospital authority. Detective Branch police picked up Rizvi from BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday.
He was ‘forced’ to stay in the hospital for two days before the much-hyped the January-5 rally of the BNP-led 20-party alliance in the capital, marking what BNP says ‘Democracy Killing Day’. The rally could not be held ultimately due to the confinement of BNP chief Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office since Saturday night.
Meanwhile, the countrywide indefinite transport blockade, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, entered into the second day today.
