Hearing deferred till May 21
A Dhaka court yesterday deferred till May 21 the hearing of Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases filed against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and eight others.
Judge Bashudev Roy of the Special Judge Court-3 passed the order after Khaleda's lawyer submitted two separate petitions seeking an adjournment of the hearing.
Md Harunur Rashid, deputy director of the Anti-Corruption Commission and also the complainant of the cases, appeared before the court yesterday to give his deposition.
In the petitions, advocate Taherul Islam Towhid told the court that Khaleda Zia on April 13 filed two separate criminal revisions with the High Court seeking cancellation of the March 19 order of the trial court that framed charges against her, her son Tarique Rahman and seven others in the two corruption cases.
The HC, however, fixed tomorrow for passing an order on Khaleda Zia's petitions challenging her indictment in the cases.
