Head of orthopaedics at CMCH passes away
Dr Samirul Islam, an associate professor and head of the Orthopaedics Department of Chattogram Medical College Hospital, died in a private hospital in the port city around 2:25pm today.
He had tested positive for Covid-19 and was undergoing treatment at CMCH since May 21.
He was given plasma on May 26, making him the first to receive the therapy in Chattogram.
He later tested negative for Covid-19 two consecutive times, but his lung was badly affected, said Dr Aniruddha Ghosh, associate professor of medicine in CMCH.
Samirul's family shifted him to a private hospital on Monday, said Brig Gen SM Humayun Kabir, CMCH director.His health condition suddenly deteriorated today and he was put on a ventilator at Metropolitan Hospital, where he died around 2:25pm.
According to Bangladesh Doctors' Foundation, 47 doctors died of coronavirus across the country so far while nine other died showing its symptoms.
