HC clears Notre Dame College admission test
The High Court today cleared the way for Notre Dame College in Dhaka to admit students of class XI through holding admission tests.
In response to a writ petition, the court stayed the process for admission into class XI of Notre Dame College on the basis of marks obtained by the admission seekers in the Secondary School Certificate examinations.
It also issued a rule upon the government to explain why the circular, issued by the ministry of education in this regard, should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice M Moazzam Husain and Justice Md Badruzzaman came up with order and rule after hearing the petition filed by the principal of Notre Dame College challenging the legality of the education ministry’s decision.
The board on May 16 issued the circular saying it will select institutions for students on the basis of their SSC marks.
The ministry on May 18 this year issued the circular saying that its will select institutions for the students’ admission for 2014-2015 academic year on the basis of their SSC marks in place of the admission tests.
Moin Ghani, one of the counsels for the petitioner, told The Daily Star, that Notre Dame College authorities can admit students through admission tests, the existing procedure of the college.
