Detectives detain BNP Vice-chairman Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed in front of Jatiya Press Club in the capital Sunday evening when he came out of the club after attending a press conference.

BNP Vice-chairman Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed was placed on a two-day remand today, hours after he was shown arrested in Bangla Motor arson attack case.

A traffic police was burnt to death and two more people were injured in the arson attack on a police requisitioned bus in the capital's Bangla Motor on December 26.

Metropolitan Magistrate Harun-or-Rashid passed the remand for the BNP leader today, after rejecting his bail petition.

The remand order came after Ali Hossain, a sub-inspector of Ramna Police Station, sought a seven-day remand for the BNP leader to interrogate him in the case.

Earlier, Ramna police filed the case against 40 opposition leaders including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in connection with the arson attack.

Detectives picked up the BNP leader yesterday evening while he came out of the Jatiya Press Club in the capital after announcing fresh agitation programme on behalf of BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance.
