Govt probe body grills Rana
The government probe committee quizzed former officer of Rapid Action Battalion Lt Commander MM Rana, made accused in Narayanganj seven-murder cases, at the gate of Dhaka Central Jail yesterday.
Rana was interogated from 10:00am to 1:00pm, Jail Superintendent Farman Ali told The Daily Star.
After the interrogation, Additional Secretary of the public administration ministry Md Shahjahan Ali Mollah, who heads the 7-member body, told reporters at the jail gate that they had been grilling former three Rab officers in custody to unearth the mystery behind the seven murders as they had been made accused in the cases.
He, however, refused to talk further about the outcomes of the yesterday's interrogation.
Former officer of the elite force Maj Arif Hossain was interrogated at the jail gate on Tuesday. Former officer of Rab Lt Col Tareque Sayeed Mohammad will be grilled at the jail gate on July 7.
The three former Rab officials have been suspended after being made accused of the murders.
Narayanganj City Corporation Panel Mayor Nazrul Islam, his three aides and driver and senior lawyer Chandan Sarkar and his driver were kidnapped from the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road on April 27. Three days later, six bodies were found floating in the Shitalakkhya. The other body was recovered from the river the following day.
Prime accused in the seven-murder cases, Nur Hossain, was arrested in West Bengal a few days back.
Nazrul's father-in-law Shahidul Islam claimed that Nur Hossain and some others had given the Rab officials around Tk 6 crore to kill Nazrul.
