Govt out to engineer upazila polls: Rizvi
BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed yesterday accused the government of hatching a conspiracy to manipulate the upcoming upazila elections to ensure the win of the pro-ruling party contenders.
The government is trying to cause the defeat of the BNP-backed candidates and to secure the victory of pro-Awami League, Jatiya Party, and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal contestants, he told a press briefing at its headquarters in the capital's Nayapaltan. "To make this successful, the government has resorted to forced disappearance, killing, and arrest of the BNP-backed candidates," Rizvi alleged.
In this connection, he referred to the detention of Abu Sayed, chairman of Charghata upazila in Rajshahi, also a candidate, without any reason. Almost the same thing has happened in Natore, he added.
Rizvi criticised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other ministers for their recent comments on the BNP, saying such remarks were instigating the law enforcers to attack their party men.
