Gonojagoron Mancha demands reinstatement

A faction of Gonojagoron Mancha yesterday submitted a memorandum to the law ministry seeking government move to file a petition against the Supreme Court verdict that commuted Delawar Hossain Sayedee's death sentence to life term imprisonment.

In the memorandum, the group led by Imran H Sarker also urged the government to disqualify the presidential clemency for all the convicted war criminals and to take steps to ban Jamaat politics.

On behalf of the law minister, Mohammad Shahidul Haque, secretary (Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs); and Jahirul Haque, secretary of Law and Justice Division, received the memorandum.

Earlier, the group brought out a procession from the capital's Shahbagh towards the law ministry.

Police stopped the protesters at Doel Chattar on the campus where they staged a rally.

Later, Imran along with five others went to the ministry and placed the memorandum.
