Girl raped, attempts on 2 others

A schoolgirl was murdered allegedly after rape by her cousin at Purbo-Muradpur village under Mithapukur upazila in the district on Friday.
The 11-year-old victim was a Class V student of Muradpur Government Primary School.
Villagers said, on Friday noon at around 2:00pm, Golam Mostafa, 25, son of Monirul Islam of the same village and cousin of the victim found the girl alone in the house and raped her.
Later the rapist strangulated her to death.
Meanwhile, police arrested an elderly man at Daitari village under Kaunia upazila of the district on Saturday night on charge of attempt to rape a 3-year-old girl.
The arrestee is Abul Kashem, 50, a father of two and son of Manu Sheikh of the village.
Police and the victim's family sources said Kashem forcibly took the girl to a nearby bamboo cluster and tried to rape the child.
Hearing screams of the baby, villagers rushed to the spot and rescued her.
In Lalmonirhat, an attempt to rape a speech impaired girl of a Hindu family was foiled by the villagers at Dakkhin Gobdha village of Durgapur union in Aditmari upazila on Saturday noon, reports our correspondent.
Aditmari police arrested the alleged culprit at night.
Police said arrestee Motaleb Hossain forcibly took the 9-year-old girl to a maize field in the village and tried to rape her.
The girl was saved when the farmers working in a nearby field sensed the matter and rushed to the spot.
