An intellectually-challenged child was raped allegedly by her neighbour on Wednesday while a suspended Jubo League leader, who was arrested for raping a housewife, was sued in another rape case in Noakhali.

Police said the nine-year-old girl was staying alone at her home in Sahapur union of Chatkhil upazila on October 21.

Other members of her family ventured out for work. Taking the chance, Miraz Hossain, who lived nearby, took the girl to a betel nut garden around 3:00pm and raped her.

After returning home, she shared the incident with her family members.

Yesterday, the mother filed a case with police.

Police were trying to arrest the accused, and the victim was sent to hospital for medical tests, said Anwarul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chatkhil Police Station.

Meanwhile, a suspended Jubo League leader, who was arrested on October 21 for raping the wife of an expatriate and capturing it on video in Chatkhil upazila, was sued in another rape case.

The woman filed the case against Mujibur Rahman Sharif, 32, president of Noakhola union unit Jubo league, with Chatkhil Police Station on Friday night.

According to the case statement, Sharif broke into the woman's room at her father's house in Noakhola union on the night of December 15, 2018 and raped her at gunpoint when her husband was in Dhaka for work. Sharif also confined the victim's younger brother in another room.

He later threatened to kill the woman if she disclosed this incident to anyone, said the case statement.

The victim last night lodged a complaint with the police station against Sharif who was arrested in a rape case on October 21.

After investigation, police found the allegation to be true. Then, the complaint was recorded as case, said Anwarul Islam, OC of Chatkhil Police Station.

On October 21, police arrested Sharif for allegedly raping the wife of an expatriate at gunpoint and capturing it on video in the same union.

On October 22, Sharif was placed on four-day remand by a court in the case. Later, Jubo League suspended him from the party.
