Bangladesh saw massive development in last 10 yrs
The Awami League government is not doing anything that even remotely resembles the repression and torture the BNP-Jamaat had unleashed, said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in parliament yesterday.
The government is rather busy building the nation, she said.
“We, like those now in the opposition [Jatiya Party], were subjected to repression by the BNP and Jamaat. We’re doing nothing to them in comparison to that,” she said.
She made the remarks in her closing speech at the fourth session of the 11th parliament, which was prorogued last night.
Hasina said her government has been striving to attain economic emancipation for the nation.
Now Bangladesh does not need to seek help from anyone to meet the expenditure laid out in the national budget, she added.
Hasina said Bangladesh drew the world’s attention with its massive development in the last decade.
“The country now has the second largest economy in South Asia, 13th in Asia, and 30th in the world, Inshallah, we’ll move further ahead.”
The prime minister said Bangladesh was able to clock 8.1 percent GDP growth in the last fiscal year, and it had accelerated economic growth over the last one decade.
She called upon the MPs to oversee the implementation of the development work by different ministries in their respective areas.
“You need to see if the development projects are being implemented properly. If you oversee it properly, the development of the country will be ensured,” she said.
