6 suspected robbers beaten to death
Six alleged robbers were killed in two separate incidents of mob violence in Chapainawabganj and Narsingdi last night.
Of them, four were killed in Boalia village under Gomostapur upazila of Chapainawabganj, reports our correspondent there.
One of the deceased was identified as Golam Rabbani. But the identities of three others could not be known immediately.
Some 10 to 12 robbers stopped a motorcycle on Kansat-Choudala road around 7:30pm. Hearing the scream of the motorcyclist, locals came forward to help him and caught four robbers, said Firoj Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Gomostapur Police Station.
The villagers then beat up the criminals indiscriminately, leaving the four critically injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and took the injured to Gomostapur Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared three of them dead. The other injured died there later.
Police recovered several sharp weapons from the spot, claimed the police official.
Later, a rickshaw-van puller was detained as the criminals came to Boalia village on his vehicle, the OC added.
In another incident, a mob beat to death two alleged robbers and injured another in Monohardi upazila of Narsingdi.
The injured man was admitted to Monohardi Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition.
Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Around 8:30pm, a group of criminals were committing a robbery on CNG-run auto-rickshaws and buses after blocking Monohardi-Sukandi road with logs, according to Monohardi police.
Hearing the news, locals chased the criminals and caught three of them.
Two were beaten to death on the spot, while another was critically injured, said SM Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Monohardi Police Station.
The locals also set fire to a private car used by the “robbers”.
